Are Names A Double Standard?

I have made a revelation although I will not claim to be the first person to have realized this: men in power are more commonly referred to by their last name than women in power. Example: Hillary v Obama. Now perhaps one may argue that we can’t refer to Hillary as ‘Clinton’ because of Bill, but really, anyone who knows even the slightest bit about what is going on in United States politics should know that Bill Clinton wasn’t running for president again.

So why is it that? Why should a man be called by his last name and a woman by her first? Why are articles titled “Hillary called Obama ‘incompetent and feckless’ in a boozy rant” instead of “Hillary Clinton called Barack Obama…” or even “Hillary Clinton called Obama..” (so there’s no confusion if it was Bill)?

I’m not to say which approach is best or right, I am simply wondering why yet again there is a double standard for males and females. Does the current method mitigate the respect or power that Hillary Clinton posses? Maybe yes, maybe no. Regardless, we seem to be in a constant struggle as different treatment based on gender persists.

Does anyone have any insight with respect to this issue? Am I missing something? Do you know of any articles or studies relating to this? Could I possibly use anymore questions marks in this post? Maybe?
