Facts: Geographic and Linguistic

I have wanted to post this for a while but have waited until I complied enough important facts. Having knowledge is power, so be ready to whip out one of these facts the next time you need to show how sophisticated and knowledgeable you are.

• There are 195 countries in the world if you count Taiwan, but apparently some people, including the U.S. , don’t…
• Of the seven continents only one is also a country: Australia.
• There are about 6,500 languages with Mandarin Chinese being spoken by the most people (1,213,000,000 people speak Mandarin!).
• In India alone there are about 1,635 dialects/ languages! 
• There are five oceans: the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Arctic, and Southern (Antarctic).
• Seas, gulfs, straits, channels, etc make up oceans. So for example the Indian Ocean is made up of the Andaman Sea, Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal, Gulf of Aden, Gulf of Oman, Laccadive Sea, Mozambique Channel, Persian Gulf, Red Sea, and Timor Sea. 
• The tallest mountain in the world is Mount Everest, in the Mahalangur section of the Himalayas, at 29,029 ft.
• Mount Everest’s summit is on the border of Nepal and China. 

Pretty amazing stuff, right? I just can’t get over the language facts; it must be amazing to travel through India and hear so many different dialects and languages.
