Hi! I’m Alyssa
And I love to share my passion for books, history, and personal development. My goal is to help you learn about new (and old) stories and to make the most of your work and life.
This blog started back in 2014 and has covered a wide range of topics from etiquette, to minimalism, to college life. The consistent theme has always been to enjoy what you do and to continue to learn.
And I’ve personally changed a lot since 2014! In college I studied sales and when I graduated I started working at IBM as a software salesperson. After two years at IBM, I joined a startup called Looker that was acquired by Google, where I work today. I absolutely love my career and am passionate about sharing the joys (and challenges) of sales and how to develop your career.
Over the years I’ve also spent countless hours learning about the worlds of history and art, and reading voraciously. When I moved to Manhattan a few years after graduating, I took advantage of all of the cultural institutions in the city, especially the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the New York Public Library. This has given me inspiration to research and tell stories that aren’t part of most curriculums.
And finally in the personal realm, I met my husband Joe, in college, so another change over the years is my last name (it used to be Freitas)! We welcomed a baby in 2023 and you’ll see appearances of my family on our many adventures that I love to share.
I’m so glad you’re here and want to let you know what to expect…but as you can see things are always changing! What I can tell you is that I will post about history that you didn’t learn in school, books that I’m loving, career advice, and anything fun and interesting that’s happening in life.
