Our first full month with the baby is under our belts! I know people say you can never be prepared and you won’t know what to expect and you can’t understand parenthood until you’re in it…and they are right. It’s been a series of highs and lows, with tons of love and excitement, and now that we’re just about 6 weeks into it I finally feel like I’m wrapping my head around the changes. So let’s get to the update!
Life
We’ve been experiencing many firsts with the little baby! Walks in the neighborhood, baths, smiles. It’s been great to live in New Jersey and have our families nearby, though I miss the city terribly. Which leads me into a major highlight of the month – Joe and I had a date in the city!
We went to our old neighborhood to visit all of our favorite spots: Maman’s, Made in NYC Pizza, Riverside Park, Salumeria Rosi. We also went to see Sweeney Todd on Broadway and it was phenomenal. Everyone was excellent, but Annaleigh Ashford as Mrs. Lovett was unbelievably good.
Joe has continued to up his cooking game, and aside from a great Thanksgiving, he also made a pork dish that we instantly added to the weekly rotation.
Books
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I loved getting to see The Met through the eyes of Patrick Bringley, a long time guard at the museum. This book is a combination of a love letter to the museum, its staff, and its patrons, as well as a story of a man’s journey through grief and maturing. I think this is a great read even if you aren’t as obsessed with The Met as I am, and if you already love the place you’ll enjoy getting a behind the scenes look at its operations and the people who guard it.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is another excellent book from James McBride. Set in Pennsylvania in the 1900s, you focus on a town’s Jewish and black populations and how they interact with one another and relate to being Americans. There are so many rich characters and story lines that it’s hard to summarize it well. If you enjoy getting a look at different cultures (including dialects, which I personally love) through relationships and the ways that people help and harm one another, you’ll like this book.
How was your November? Can you believe that 2023 is almost over?
