It is absolutely wild to have closed out September and started my maternity leave in October! Since I began working after college I have not taken more than a 2 week break at any time, even when switching between jobs. I’m now looking at what could either be a short or long wait for the baby to arrive (depending on its own mysterious schedule), and then months of leave to follow. Let’s jump into the last “normal” recap for some time to come!
Life
September was our last month of living in New York City. We soaked it up with our first visit to Radio City Music Hall to see Taylor Tomlinson, awesome work events, and dinner at our favorite Upper West Side restaurant called La Siren.
My mother hosted the most wonderful baby shower for me and it was such a joyous day of celebrating! So many friends and family were there, and the bunny theme could not have been more perfect.
Moving was another big event of the month! After a few nights of packing after work, we were ready for the movers to arrive and take us over to New Jersey. I am definitely sad to leave the city, but so happy to be settling into a place with more space and a great location to family (and for getting back into the city) before the baby arrives. We’re still getting furniture delivered and nothing is hanging on the walls yet, but we’re getting there!
Here’s a shot of Joe making our first meal in the new kitchen.
Our last big event of the month was attending our friends Austen and Andrew’s wedding. They did a beautiful job and it was an honor to celebrate their love!
Books
⭐️⭐️⭐️
I gave this book 3 stars because of all of the new vocabulary I was exposed to and the solid writing and pacing. Unfortunately the story was just not for me. The novel is framed up with a reporter as the narrator who is investigating a scandal at a boarding school in the North East. However, the perspective changes to the main character and the scenes are impossibly detailed if it is in fact the reporter who is narrating.
All that aside, there is a lot of sexual content which is uncomfortable in and of itself, made even worse because it’s about high school students. There are drugs and violence and I can’t recommend this book because of the content.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was a necessary palate cleanser after my previous read, but alas, it only earned 3 stars as well. This novel is narrated by a woman who befriends Estee Lauder before she is THE Estee Lauder. As lover of Estee Lauder products, New York City, and historical fiction, this had all of the makings of an enjoyable read for me when I needed something light. If you want to read about flawed characters making the same mistakes over and over again in a charming setting, this book is for you.
