I’ve been going to a ton of live performances recently. They’ve been all different types, like Broadway shows and plays, and I even got to see the Google NYC Orchestra perform. It’s so exciting to see talented people come together to create music and they performed at our office on Pier 57 on the Hudson. It was simultaneously a peaceful and exhilarating experience to hear their music while looking at the Statue of Liberty and the boats going by.
It got me thinking that it wasn’t always possible for anyone to seek out experiencing live performance. In fact, at the start of the year I wrote a Back in Time post about the battleground of NYC opera houses for the elite during the Gilded Age.
On this week’s episode of Stories New & Old I share the story of the creation of the Metropolitan Opera House. You can listen to the episode on Apple and Spotify below! Please rate and leave a review if you like the episode.
What do you think of this story? Does it make you look at the Metropolitan any differently?
