I am always on the hunt for new books! The typical places I find new books are Goodreads, chatting with friends, and “best of” lists. Today I want to introduce you to a new service that I am loving to get personally recommended books from the New York Public Library.
The NYPL recently released a service where librarians will pick out books specifically for you – it’s called Shelf Help and it couldn’t be simpler. You can fill out a form online, call a specific number, or fill out a form in person where you share the types of books you are looking for (it was historical fiction for me) and books you’ve liked in the past.
I took it a bit further and included my Goodreads profile so I wouldn’t end up getting a book I’d already read. I’m not sure if they looked at it, but I didn’t get any repeats.
You wait to get an email notification that your books are ready, and you head over to your local branch to pick them up – it’s that easy!
While it says on the NYPL website that you’ll get a bundle of five books, I only got three. Two out of three were great, so I was highly satisfied.
I so appreciate all of the resources the library makes available, including events and ebooks (check out this post for info on how to get ebooks for free), and this is a great addition to their services.
Make sure to follow me on Goodreads to see everything I’m reading, follow me on Instagram to see monthly book reviews, and check in on the reading section of the blog regularly!
