It has been frigid in the city this month…and I love it! I want the winters to feel like real deal winter, with single digit temperatures every once in a while. And what is the perfect thing to do when it’s oh so cold out? Get a hot chocolate!
My friend Sheetal and I did a series on Instagram a while back where we visited hot chocolate places in the city and rated them. I realized I never shared the best places on the blog and thought it would be good addition to save along with my other NYC posts.
MarieBelle
Location: Soho, 484 Broome St. Website
This turned out to be our favorite even though it didn’t make it into the original series! The shop is adorable and there is a sweet seating area in the back. We loved the presentation and that you could add your own whipped cream, plus the hot chocolate itself was the perfect mix of rich and creamy.
Blue Stripes
Location: Union Square, 28 E 13th St Website
Please take note of the chocolate around the rim of these mugs. Blue Stripes is a top location and I highly recommend it. If you go during Christmas time you can check out the market in Union Square right nearby!
Max Brenner
Location: Union Square 841 Broadway Website
We were blown away here. From the atmosphere, to the service, to the incredibly rich hot chocolate, we understand the hype. We had classic milk chocolate and salted caramel, and the favorite was unsurprisingly the classic.
Jacques Torres
Location: Upper West Side, 285 Amsterdam Ave Website
This place is special to us because it’s where our journey began and it’s where we realized all how decadent hot chocolate can be. There isn’t seating here, so it’s best to grab a cup to go and walk through Central Park right near by.
Dominique Ansel
Location: Soho, 189 Spring St Website
Dominique Ansel’s is known for their “blooming” hot chocolate – they place a marshmallow flower into your hot chocolate that blooms before your eyes! There is ample seating and a flower wall (where I am in the first image of this post), plus they handed out pastries while we were waiting on the long line.
There you have it! My top 5 places for hot chocolate in the city so you can warm up on these icy days. Make sure to check out the Instagram series to see everywhere we reviewed.
Where have you gotten the best hot chocolate?
