I love having background music playing pretty much all of the time. Whether I’m taking a walk, or relaxing at home, or hard at work, having music playing makes everything I do more enjoyable.
I recently went through my Spotify library and did an overhaul of the playlists I’m subscribed to and thought it would be fun to share what I listen to for all different activities. I’d love to hear what you listen to as well, so feel free to post in the comments!
Working
I wrote a post a few years ago with a roundup of playlists I listen to while working…and I no longer listen to any of those playlists. Here’s what’s been doing it for me lately:
Creative Focus – This playlist is a light, classical playlist that you can zone out with.
Electronic Focus – I listen to this playlist when I need to feel energized and move through tasks at a quick pace.
Birds in the Forest – This is a super calming playlist that helps me feel like I’m not sitting in an office, but am actually outside in a park enjoying the weather while working.
Relaxing
Like I mentioned, I love to have background music no matter what I’m up to, and these playlists are on constant rotation.
stroll with me – This is one of the only playlists I listen to that was not made by me or Spotify. I found this playlist because I watch the creator on YouTube and it is a fun mix to listen to while walking and commuting.
Classical Reading – I use this playlist for reading and writing. I will say that I do pick out specific playlists when it fits with the book that I’m reading. For example, I recently read a book set in China, so I listened to Traditional Chinese Instrumental and when I was reading a book set in Ireland I listened to Irish Instrumental.
Coffee Table Jazz – This is a catch all for times when I want background music, but still want to talk with others. So I use this when having dinner and playing board games.
Chill Out – I created this playlist and it is a collection of songs I like that I categorize as more on the relaxing side than the jump around and party side.
Play
I have a lot in this category!
80s Music – I have a few playlists I follow. There is an 80s Mix that was created for me by Spotify (I guess because I listen to so much from this decade). I like the All Out 80s and 80s Hits playlists too.
Happy Days – I am also a big fan of 60s music and this playlist embodies its title perfectly.
Dance Party – This is a playlist I’m still working on. Right now I just threw on songs that I like to sing and dance around to on my own, and I plan to build this out more! It’s a strange mix, but it’s what I like 🙂
Disney – There’s nothing like driving and singing along to Disney.
Bollywood – This is another playlist where I throw on my favorites and could dance to it all day long.
Visiting the Met – Just like I like to have atmospheric music playing while reading that helps transport me to another place, I enjoy listening to music while I’m in the museum and I made playlists for two sections: Medieval Art and European Painting & Sculpture.
As we head into the holiday season I’ll be playing classic Christmas music, but for now I’m having fun rotating through all of the playlists I shared today!
What do you like to listen to? Do you also have different music going depending on what you are doing?
