Something I’ve realized during this quarantine period is that I have a lot of energy. I’m recognizing this now because so much of it is pent up – social energy, learning-new-things energy, moving-around energy. Without going to see customers and friends, without visiting museums and going to events, and without walking around the city, traveling, and generally being out and about, it’s more apparent than ever that I love to be on the move.
This isn’t going to be a post about how to expel that energy when we’re homebound because I haven’t figured that out for myself yet. Instead, I want to talk about how I harness my energy and excitement, and the benefits of being energetic that you can pursue yourself.
Overall benefits of being an energetic person
This energy allows you to get more done as you approach tasks with ambition and enthusiasm, and can help you fill your days with exciting memories and enjoyment. It also makes you a fun person to be around and can fuel your curiosity to learn more about others and be a good friend.
Sometimes it’s hard to summon your energy, whether that’s because of something physical like not getting enough sleep, or something mental like not naturally being excited about a particular task or obligation. I’m not energetic 100% of the time (that would not be sustainable!), but I do have some techniques to inspire energy when it may seem elusive.
Fake it ’til you make it
This also comes down to how you move your body and your facial expressions. I can’t say enough for having a quick dance party and putting a smile on your face to replenish your excitement and energy.
Laugh and listen to good music
Another thing I like to do is listen to uplifting music. Favorites include I Have Confidence from The Sound of Music, Non-Stop from Hamilton, and Build Me Up Buttercup.
