I recently visited the Van Vleck House and Gardens in Montcalir, NJ. Wandering around the beautiful grounds was quite enjoyable! With the gardens free and open to the public every day of the year it is the perfect place for a quiet picnic or even a proposal (which happened when I was there!). The current main house was built in 1916 and three generations of Van Vleck’s lived on the property until 1993. All three generations were dedicated to maintaing and improving the property, which is evident by the classic beauty of the gardens.
